Thousands of flags to honor victims of 9/11 Terrorist Attack. Omaha, NE – (August 28, 2017) – For the thirteenth consecutive year, nearly three thousand American flags will be placed in the ground at Memorial Park to mark the sixteenth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack. Each flag bears the name of one of the victims of the attack. Each flag is personalized with the person's name, age, and location of where they died. Each of these tags is color coded providing information on the location of where each person died (e.g., Flight 93, Flight 75, Pentagon, World Trade Center 1, World Trade Center 2, Flight 11, Flight 175) with a special designation for all those who died who were rescue personnel. In addition, the flags of those who have a Nebraska Connection are placed in a special Nebraska Connections circle with additional information provided about each person for the Nebraska families who lost a loved one on 9/11.
