The Union Pacific Museum celebrates “Be Prepared!” Nov. 3 from 5-7 p.m. Visitors will learn how the railroad grapples with snow covered tracks, and can meet the people and equipment, helping clear snow from Council Bluffs streets. Sit down for a story with the Council Bluffs Public Library Youth Department, or go on an adventure with “Harriet the Spy” and Film Streams as they prepare to bring her movie to the theater later this month. Find out how you can prepare for severe weather, both in the car and at home, with help from the Boy Scouts of America and Council Bluffs Emergency Management. Operation Lifesaver will prepare visitors to be safe near railroad tracks. Repeat guests should bring their Family Night 2017 punch card and check in upon arrival. Individuals who have their card stamped at least seven times this year are eligible for a six-person trip aboard the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad in Boone, Iowa. A drawing for the trip will occur at the Dec. 1, 2017, family night. Winners must be present to win. Admission is free to all family nights; however, donations are gladly accepted. Family Nights are hosted the first Friday of every month from 5-7 p.m. In addition to providing extended hours for visitors to access the museum’s interactive displays on railroading and the history of the West, Family Nights feature unique arts or learning opportunities for the entire family. Next month’s Family Night on Dec. 1 is the grand opening of “Working on the Railroad!”.
