American Red Cross blood donor call center opens in west Omaha

Omaha, NE – The American Red Cross' new blood donor call center has opened in Sarpy County.

National CEO Gail McGovern visited the call center, located on Chalco Valley Parkway, Friday afternoon. 125 people will work at the call center, scheduling appointments for blood donations. McGovern says Omaha was chosen for a call center because of its central location. The other two are in Tucson, Arizona and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Programming change takes place Saturday November 6th.

Jazz Junction, hosted by Rick Erben, will expand to three hours beginning Saturday November 6th. The show's new start time will be 8:00PM.

NPR's JazzSet will move to Friday nights at 8:00PM on November 5th.

Actor Jeff Daniels kicks off the new season of the 1200 Club at the Holland Center

Actor, Singer, Songwriter Jeff Daniels

Omaha, NE – Actor Jeff Daniels will perform at the 1200 Club on Wednesday, November 3rd.
Daniels will kick off the 2010-2011 season with a musical performance.

He's been writing and playing songs since the 1970's but only began performing his music in public about ten years ago. Daniels says writing and singing his own material allows him full creative control. He says singing his own songs live is exciting because he gets to break that fourth wall that separates the performer from the audience.

Report shows financial irregularities in Omaha Fire Department

Omaha, NE – A report from the Nebraska State Auditor's Office shows more than three years of financial irregularities in the Omaha Fire Department.

State Auditor Mike Foley released the results at a news conference Thursday. Among the findings are that the Kloewer Fund, set up for donations, had limited documentation showing how the money was used. Also, some funds deposited into the Kloewer account should have been directed to other city funds. The report is based on records from January 2007 to June 2010.
