2 killed in I-29 crash identified

MONDAMIN, Iowa (AP) — Authorities in western Iowa have identified two people killed in a crash on Interstate 29 near Mondamin earlier this week.

The Council Bluffs Nonpareil reports that 18-year-old Salvador Valdovinos, of South Sioux City, Neb., and 59-year-old William Griffin, of Pine Bluff, Ark., died in the Monday crash.

Authorities say a pickup driven by Valdovinos went off the interstate around 6:50 a.m., overcorrected and crossed the center median, hitting the side of a northbound semitrailer in which Griffin was traveling.

The driver of the semi, 58-year-old Rebecca Griffin, was injured and flown to an Omaha hospital, where she is recovering.

Valdovinos was a student at Creighton University in Omaha.
