2 Neb-Omaha players dismissed after fight near bar

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Two players have been dismissed from the Nebraska-Omaha hockey team after they were cited on suspicion of disorderly conduct for their role in a fight outside a downtown Omaha bar.

Athletic director Trev Alberts announced Friday that Matt White and Preston Hodge are no longer on the team. A third player, Alex Simonson, has been suspended.

Witnesses told police that the hockey players taunted a group of African-Americans with racial slurs about 2 a.m. on August 3rd. A police report says Hodge reportedly pushed one man and struck his head on the ground when the man pushed him back. Hodge was treated at a hospital and released.

White was a co-captain last season and the team's fourth-leading scorer. Simonson appeared in 18 games. Hodge was to be a freshman.
