The 2012 Heartland Active Transportation Summit set for this month

The 2012 Heartland Active Transportation Summittakes place on Friday, September 28th

This year’s theme is Great Transit and Trails for Livable Communities.  Derek Miller, Transportation Planner for the City of Omaha, says the purpose of the summit is to provide better awareness for active transportation in the city.

He says the keynote speaker is Jarrett Walker, author of the book and blog titled Human Transit.  Miller says Walker will discuss ways to get transit to work more effectively in our communities.  He says there are also speakers in the morning.

"One major track in the morning is talking about land use and development around active transportation, what transit and trails can do.  Talking about the land use economic development potential of active transportation and its role in creating more sound development in the community.”

The 2012 Heartland Active Transportation Summit takes place at the Swanson Conference Center in Metro Community College’s Institute for the Culinary Arts building.  Details and registration are availablehere.
