2015 USAF Band Jazz Heritage Series to air on KIOS

KIOS will once again air the Jazz Heritage Series of concerts produced by the United States Air Force Band Airmen of Note featuring special guests. The shows will air on consecutive Fridays at 2:00PM.

The three week series begins July 3rd with special guest trumpeter Bobby Shew.

The second show, airing July 10th, will feature the Airmen of Note paying tribute to the greatest small groups in jazz over the last 60 years. The set includes performances honoring Charlie Parker, Horace Silver, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock among others.

The final program, airing July 17th, is The Best of the Jazz Heritage Series with memorable performances from the last 6 years. You'll hear from Al Jarreau, Carmen Bradford, Doc Severinsen, Roberta Gambarini, Andy Martin, Phil Woods, Kurt Elling, Joe Locke and the New York Voices.

The USAF Band Jazz Heritage Series airs July 3rd, 10th and 17th at 2:00PM on KIOS-FM.

Mike Jacobs has been with KIOS since 1988 while attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Mike began his career at KIOS working weekends acting as local host for NPR’s Weekend Edition. He also hosted Morning Edition from 1990-1996. Mike began hosting the weekly blues program “Blues in the Afternoon” in October 1994 and took on the responsibilities of jazz programming and maintaining the music library in 1996. He has held the position of Music Director since 2002. In addition to hosting “Jazz in the Afternoon” on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Mike also helps with assembling music for “Jazz From Studio One” hosted by the advanced radio students at the Omaha Public Schools Career Center. Mike is an Omaha native and graduated from Technical High School in 1984.
