2017 Kids First Award Winners Announced

At Project Harmony’s annual luncheon, they will recognize three individuals whose work has improved the lives of children in our community.

Gene Klein, Executive Director of Project Harmony, says the Kids First Award is meant to recognize professionals who have gone above and beyond to protect children in our community.

Klein says there are three people receiving awards at their luncheon this Wednesday.  He says the first individual being recognized is Sgt. Marlene Novotny from the Omaha Police Department.

Klein says Novotny is currently leading the Domestic Violence Unit and works to ensure victims are protected.

He says she’s also worked at Project Harmony in the child abuse/child victim unit for a decade.

Klein says Novotny makes sure children are protected in all situations.

"The second person that we are acknowledging is Molly Keane.  Molly is a prosecutor at the Douglas County Attorneys’ office.  And Molly’s role is to be the lead prosecutor on all of the felony child physical abuse, sexual abuse and life threatening and neglect cases.  Molly plays an instrumental role in helping children who don’t have a voice, get justice in the courtroom.”

The third person being honored is attorney Tom Incontro.  Incontro works as a Guardian Ad Litem, representing children in the juvenile court.

Klein says Incontro works to ensure the best interests of the children are being addressed in the system.  He goes out and meets with kids placed in foster care and is their advocate in the court room.
