3 face charges after Glenwood melee involving principal

GLENWOOD, Iowa (AP) — Three people have been charged in connection with a shooting involving a principal in southwest Iowa.

The Mills County Attorney's Office says 42-year-old Hurl Beechum, 18-year-old Denver Cook and 21-year-old Colton McDaniel face different charges following the Sunday night shooting in Glenwood. Charges include intimidation with a dangerous weapon and assault causing bodily injury.

McDaniel suffered a gunshot wound in the shooting. Beechum is the stepson of Richard Hutchinson, principal at Glenwood Community High School. Beechum, Hutchinson and McDaniel were taken to a hospital, though additional information isn't available.

A fourth man, 20-year-old Liam Whitehouse, faces weapons charges after authorities say he made a suspicious Facebook post after the shooting. They say a sword and gun were found in his vehicle.

Court records do not list attorneys for the men.
