Omaha, NE – Mills County, Iowa Emergency Management officials say a 30 foot section of berm in the St. Mary's Drainage District breached Wednesday afternoon.
Officials say ongoing flooding and recent heavy rain contributed to the breach. 182nd Street and Gaston Avenue are closed because of water rushing over the roads. Mills County officials say residents in that area should be prepared to evacuate.
Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Hurst says the berm is separate from the main levee system protecting parts of Mills County from the flooded Missouri River.
