30 guns collected during first OPD gun amnesty day

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Omaha Police collected 30 guns and more than one thousand rounds of ammunition during last month's gun amnesty day.

Gun amnesty day gives anyone who has an illegal or unwanted gun the chance to dispose of it without penalty. Omaha Police Gang Unit Sergeant Eric Nordby says they hope for the same success at tomorrow's event. "There will be no questions asked, no investigations, and no arrests."

Saturday's gun amnesty day is at 30th and Spencer streets. It happens from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Once ballistics tests are performed to determine if the guns were used in crimes, the weapons are destroyed. You won't be asked for any personal information when you turn in a weapon at amnesty day.
