AAA expects an increase in travelers this weekend

AAA is anticipating big travel crowds for this upcoming holiday weekend.

The combination of lower gas prices and higher personal incomes mean that family and friends are hitting the road or boarding a plane to enjoy themselves in the name of the USA’s birthday.

Mark Jenkins, AAA Spokesman, explains how cheaper gas prices effect travelers’ willingness to take a trip.

"You know gas prices can really have a psychological effect on travelers. Considering a couple years ago when prices were around $4 a gallon, people really cringed at the idea of going to the gas station to fill up then take a long trip. Now prices are less than $2.50 and the focus becomes more about where you’ll go and what you’ll do when you get there.”

AAA advises getting your car checked before you hit the road, getting lots of sleep before you depart, taking regular breaks and designating someone else to handle your distractions like texts and navigation.
