African American History Month Programs Abound at Omaha Public Library

Omaha Public Library is offering a series of events in celebration of African American History Month.

Emily Getzschman, Marketing Manager for the Omaha Public Library, says the says the lineup of programs includes authors, entertainers and some story time sessions so that the library can include all ages in learning about the history and contributions of African Americans.

She says events include a theatrical performance called “Back of the Bus” about Rosa Parks and a presentation by Matt Holland, author of “Ahead of Their Time.”

"And he’s going to be talking about the Omaha DePorres Club which pre-dated the Civil Rights Movement in Omaha.  So it’s really interesting local history that a lot of people probably aren’t aware of and talking about the contributions they made on a grander scale and how they resonated throughout the country.”

Other events include a performance by local musician George Walker and a screening of a documentary film about the Tuskegee Airmen.

All events are complimentary but some require registration.
