All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon chose to stay close to his Nebraska roots and signed a four-year contract with the Kansas City Royals reportedly worth a total of $72 million.
When Alex Gordon recently made an appearance at a baseball clinic on the Creighton University campus, he dropped a hint at that time that he might return to the Royals. He now says that was his hope all along.
“Coming into the off-season, we were very appreciative of all the teams that showed up interest,” said Gordon. “But at the end of the day my heart has been and, I think, always will be in Kansas City.”
In an off-season marked by marquis players changing uniforms, Gordon says he knows bucked the trend. It came down to location.
“Being so close to home where I grew up, Nebraska, it really means a lot to be close with my family and friends because they mean so much to me.”
Gordon continues to live in Lincoln during the off-season.
