By Katie Knapp Schubert
Council Bluffs, IA – The Iowa State Patrol has canceled an Amber Alert for a missing 14-year-old Council Bluffs girl whose whereabouts remain unknown.
Pottawattamie County authorities say Janakaye Marie Lee's case is now an active missing persons investigation. Lee was last seen Monday morning in Council Bluffs. She is white, 5'9", 130 pounds with black-brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a white hoodie, gold top with black straps, blue jeans, and brown boots.
Lee is believed to be with 19-year-old Steven Keith Hecker. Hecker is white, 5'9", 165 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black Nebraska sweatshirt and blue jeans. A spokesperson for the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's office says they now believe Lee went with Hecker willingly.
The suspect vehicle is a black 2 door 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse with Iowa license plate 532 TLT or 912 SCZ. Hecker and Lee are believed to possibly be en route to Illinois.
Anyone with information on Lee's whereabouts or the suspect vehicle is urged to call 911.
