Amended 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan Available for Public Comment

The public is invited to comment on the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency’s amended 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27th.

Greg Youell is Executive Director of MAPA. He says the organization has a regional planning process where the metro area communities, both in Nebraska and Iowa, work together to create a long range transportation plan.

Youell says the amendment includes the results of the alternative analysis study the city of Omaha and Metro Transit recently conducted.

It includes a bus rapid transit system and an urban circulator project.

"This is the public’s opportunity to weigh in on how the federal funds that come into this metro area get utilized. Since this project is now at a stage where it’s going from a general concept to a more specific project that would advance in the process to potentially becoming a reality, this is a good opportunity for citizens and residents to weigh in with their thoughts on this project.”

Youell says the urban circulator would run from Westroads to Downtown, along the Dodge and Farnam corridors.

MAPA is taking public comments on the amendment via email.  The address is mapa@mapacog.org.
