American Red Cross says blood donations are urgently needed

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – The American Red Cross says blood donations are urgently needed, both locally and nationally.

During May and June, donations were at the lowest level in 12 years. April Oppliger of the Heartland Chapter says locally, Missouri River flooding has reduced the number of available sites for blood drives.

Oppliger says all blood types are needed. She says blood products have a shelf life of 42 days, and are going out to hospitals as soon as donations come in.
