Artist and Creighton alumnae Angie Seykora will have an exhibition on view at the Lied Art Gallery next month.
Seykora’s exhibit is called Working Materials. Seykora says she has a process-based studio practice where she utilizes found materials that she repurposes and recycles to create formal compositions.
She says the work is a labor-intensive craftwork process using common materials as well as non-traditional items like tape, vinyl and pom poms.
Seykora says these items are naturally disposable but she uses them in a way that brings new life to them.
"First and foremost I would say it’s sculpture because I am using physical materials to make three dimensional forms. Some of these forms are more like tapestries that hang on a wall. But I am also choosing the materials based on the color, similar to the way a painter would choose a color of paint to create a line or a composition. So it definitely bridges between painting and sculpture.”
Working Materials will be on view January 16th through February 15th at Creighton’s Lied Art Gallery. A reception will be held on January 16th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Seykora will give an artist lecture on Saturday, January 24th at 1:00 in the gallery.
