Applications sought for Nebraska lawmaker's seat

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The governor is seeking applications from people who want to replace Charlie Janssen in the Nebraska Legislature, representing the 15th Legislative District.

Janssen, a Fremont Republican, beat Senator Amanda McGill to become the next Nebraska auditor. Janssen will be replacing Mike Foley, who successfully ran for lieutenant governor on the Republican ticket with Pete Ricketts, who will become governor.

The governor's office says the applications will go to Governor Dave Heinemann and he will make the appointment, but the person will be selected by Ricketts.

Applications will be accepted through noon Central time on November 26th. The person appointed may serve until January 2017, with the seat up for election in November 2016. Under the state's term limits law, the appointee will be eligible to run for re-election once.
