Arrest made in connection with woman's death; police searching river for missing boy

OPD

An arrest has been made in connection with the homicide of the mother of a missing 5-year-old boy.

Omaha Police say 25-year-old Roberto Martinez-Marinero is charged with first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He is the son of Jesus Ismenia Marinero. Her body was found Wednesday evening at 4th and Cedar Streets.

In a news release, OPD says Martinez-Marinero walked in to the Douglas County Department of Corrections last night and told them he was involved in the death of his mother.

Police are also searching an area near the Elkhorn River, and say they have reason to believe 5-year-old Josue Ramirez-Marinero may have been thrown in to the river at the Highway 275 bridge. An AMBER Alert was issued Thursday for Josue. His 11-month-old brother, Angel, was found in a dumpster at an apartment complex in La Vista.

Police say no other suspects are being sought at this time.
