The Democratic candidate for Nebraska’s Second Congressional District says Congress should take a pay cut until a balanced budget is passed.
Brad Ashford says if he’s elected, he’ll introduce a bill requiring lawmakers to take a 10 percent pay cut until there’s a balanced budget.
"At the very least, we shouldn’t raise salaries in Congress until we balance the budget. That’s my pledge. And I’ll take a ten percent pay cut until such time as we balance the budget."
Ashford says he also wants to end pensions for Congressmen who become lobbyists after serving in the House or Senate. Another proposal would end pay checks for lawmakers during a government shutdown.
Kent Grisham, a spokesman for Congressman Terry's campaign, says the campaign is "dismayed by an early negative approach and distortions."
