Omaha, NE – Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning has begun his campaign for U.S. Senate.
Bruning kicked off what he's calling the "Principles Matter Tour" Wednesday.

He's seeking the Senate seat currently held by Senator Ben Nelson. Bruning, a three-term Republican Attorney General, says his campaign will focus on fiscal responsibility. "We need to get a handle on federal spending in Washington. We need to cut the debt, we need to cut the deficit, we need to reduce spending, and that's why I'm running."

Bruning believes Nebraskans want a smaller federal government that stays out of people's lives. He's one of several Attorneys' General who sued over the federal health care law.

Senator Ben Nelson has not yet announced if he'll seek re-election in 2012. Bruning also faces a potential 2012 challenger in State Treasurer Don Stenberg, a fellow Republican.
