Bachmann, Cain campaign in Council Bluffs

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Presidential candidates are making their way through Iowa this week in advance of Saturday's straw poll.

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and businessman Herman Cain held rallies Monday afternoon at Bayliss Park in Council Bluffs. Bachmann says more needs to be done to keep jobs in the United States. "I am tired of seeing American jobs go to China. I'm tired of that. I want to see those jobs stay here in the United States of America, because they tell us in maybe five years China will be the number one economic superpower in the world. How's that going to help us?"

Bachmann called herself a fiscal and social conservative who wants to make the U.S. respected again in the world.

Cain is the former president of Godfather's Pizza and the National Restaurant Association. He called for reform of some government programs, saying those programs will be more effective if they're assistance-based. "I grew up in a family where you achieved the American dream the old-fashioned way. You worked for it. And this is why I am determined to change this mindset that we have in this nation from an entitlement society to an empowerment society."

Cain criticized the Obama administration's handling of the debt ceiling deal, saying it showed a lack of leadership.

Bachmann is scheduled to make three campaign stops Tuesday. Cain has four stops scheduled Tuesday on his Iowa bus tour.
