Ballet Nebraska premieres Go West! tonight

Ballet Nebraska premieres its new frontier-themed ballet Go West! tonight at Joslyn Art Museum and Sunday at Iowa Western Community College’s Arts Center.

Erika Overturff, Founder and Artistic Director for Ballet Nebraska, says she choreographed Go West! as part of a collaboration with Joslyn Art Museum, celebrating its current exhibition: Go West! Art of the American Frontier

Overturff says Go West! features lots of different cowboy ballads and western tunes…

"There’s a lot of high energy movements and exciting, nostalgic ideas about the old west which are explored in the work.  And then there’s also songs and themes about love and exploration and different trials and tribulations people went through during that era.”

Overturff says other pieces on the program include a pas de deux from Swan Lake and a funny, two-man piece called You’ve Gotta Be Kidding Me! Performances of Momentum: Go West! will be tonight at 7:30 at Joslyn Art Museum, and Sunday, April 3, at 2 pm at the Iowa Western Arts Center.
