Ballet Nebraska's "Momentum" Displays Dancers' Versatility

“Momentum,” Ballet Nebraska’s mixed repertory program takes place this Friday at the Joslyn Art Museum and Sunday at the Arts Center on the Iowa Western campus.

Artistic Director Erika Overturff loves “Momentum” because it always shows off the dancers’ versatility.

This year’s program is called “Momentum: Fosse Style” because of the headline piece.

Overturff says Ann Reinking was in Omaha for about a week and a half to work intensively with the company.  Reinking staged a medley in the style of Bob Fosse.

And Overturff says the piece includes selections and inspiration from several of Mr. Fosse’s different, famous works.

"He’s an incredible iconic choreographer for both the stage and screen.  And she was one of his major muses and so she’s kind of the foremost interpreter of his work now.  So to get directly with her was such an honor and the piece is so much fun.”

Overturff also choreographed a piece for the program that explores the heritage of the Appalachian region as told through the music of its people.
