Ballet Nebraska's Upcoming "Momentum" Collaborates With Joslyn Art Museum

Ballet Nebraska’s third and final performance of its seventh season, Momentum, takes place on April 1st and 8th

Erika Overturff, Artistic Director and Founder of Ballet Nebraska, says this is a mixed repertory show featuring multiple pieces. One of the works is Overturff’s own ballet, Ella, inspired by her love of Ella Fitzgerald’s music. She describes it as exuberant and stylized with a vintage flare.  Overturff says Momentum is always an audience favorite…

“It features several different works in an exciting variety of styles, from classical to more contemporary and it’s one of my personal favorites as well because we just have such a nice variety on the program. Works range from one shorter solo dance and some are longer works like maybe a 20 or 30-minute piece, but it differs from some of the other shows we do like the Nutcracker or Swan Lake, that are just one full narrative ballet.”

Overturff says one of the works, Bournonville Divertissements, is being done in collaboration with Joslyn Art Museum’s reinstallation of their European collection.  A former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet came and staged these works with the Ballet Nebraska dancers.  Overturff says the dances by this famous 19th Century Danish choreographer are stylistic, aerobically challenging and charming.

Momentum takes place April 1st at Joslyn Art Museum and April 8th at the Iowa Western Arts Center.  Ticket information for either venue is available at Balletnebraska.org
