Vocalist and her band stay faithful to jazz of 20's, 30's, 40'sBy Chris Cooke

Omaha, Nebraska – Traditional Jazz fans need look no farther than Banu Gibson and Her New Orleans Hot Jazz Band for the music they love.

Gibson and her band will perform Wednesday night at Iowa Western Community College. Showtime is 7:30pm at the Arts Center, located at 2700 College Road, in Council Bluffs Iowa. For tickets call (712)388-7140.
Bucking a trend within today's jazz to cover more recent material, Banu Gibson is one of the few vocalists of her generation to maintain exclusive loyalty to songs of the 1920s, '30s, and '40s. She accomplishes this by not imitating singers of the past, but by mixing fresh renditions of Tin Pan Alley standards and jazz classics by Gershwin, Ellington, Berlin, Porter, and others.
Banu Gibson is a multi-talented force on her CDs as well as on stage. Gibson and her band recently appeared on Garrison Keillor's award-winning NPR series, A Prairie Home Companion. The band also headlines nationwide at concerts, jazz festivals, clubs and jazz parties. Gibson as a solo vocalist has appeared four times as a featured vocalist on Riverwalk, Live From The Landing, in addition to guest appearances internationally.

Chris Cooke is the host of Jazz in the Afternoon and Last Call on KIOS-FM.
