Bellevue Police Department moves forward

Bellevue Interim Police Chief Mark Elbert.

Bellevue’s Interim Police Chief says things are starting to return to normal for the department.

Captain Mark Elbert is Interim Chief, following the resignation of John Stacey. Stacey was placed on administrative leave in early May following allegations that he made an inappropriate remark to a teenage girl while she was touring a Fire Station. Stacey’s last day with the Bellevue Police Department was Thursday.

Elbert says the situation was a distraction for the department, but officers focused on their tasks and worked through it.  He says the department is going through a transition period with the change in leadership. But Elbert says Bellevue residents should know it won’t affect services.

Stacey is scheduled in Sarpy County Court next Wednesday morning on a misdemeanor charge of violating a gun certificate law. He was a member of the Bellevue Police Department for 34 years.
