Biblical Archaeology Conference begins Thursday at UNO

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Biblical scholars from around the world will be at UNO this week for the Batchelder Biblical Archaeology Conference.

The Conference runs Thursday through Saturday at UNO's Thompson Alumni Center. It brings together archaeologists, biblical scholars, and members of the Bethsaida Excavations Project.

Filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici is debuting a new documentary at the conference about the Bethsaida excavation. The film, called "The First Supper," chronicles the Bethsaida excavation and the findings made there. Jacobovici says Bethsaida is significant because archaeologists can actually uncover items there from the time of Jesus.

Jacobovici is the host of a History International show that follows biblical excavations. He says he was inspired to make the film after attending the conference two years ago.

The conference runs through Saturday at the Thompson Alumni Center. More information is available at www.unomaha.edu/bethsaida.
