Big Red Express whistle-stop tour to visit four Nebraska communities

Union Pacific and the University of Nebraska are participating in a unique whistle-stop tour of the state later this month.

UP will operate the Big Red Express on June 28th through Columbus, Grand Island, Kearney, and North Platte. Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says the railroad hasn’t done something like this before with the University of Nebraska.

He says a celebration is planned in each community where the passenger train is scheduled to stop.

"It’s probably only fitting that this might be here, the first one in Nebraska, because it’s Union Pacific’s home, Omaha is our home headquarters, North Platte for Union Pacific is home of the world’s largest rail yard, and in between, there are so many communities that not only have a historical railroad significance, but also have some great fans for UNL."

Several University of Nebraska coaches will be riding along, and will speak at the whistle-stop events. A complete schedule and more information is available at www.up.com.
