Brownville nuclear plant tops U.S. list of violations

BROWNVILLE, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska's two nuclear power plants were high on the lists of safety violations at U.S. nuclear power plants.

A congressional study says the number of safety violations at U.S. nuclear power plants from 2000 to 2012 varies dramatically from region to region and show inconsistent enforcement.

According to Nuclear Regulatory Commission figures cited Tuesday in the report, the Cooper nuclear station in Brownville led all sites in lower-level violations per reactor with 363.

Cooper had the second-highest number of higher-level violations per reactor from 2000 to 2012, with 11. The Fort Calhoun nuclear plant had eight.
