The Buffett Early Childhood Institute at the University of Nebraska is offering the first financial support program in the University of Nebraska system for doctoral students centered on early childhood education.
Susan Sarver, Director of Workforce Development and Planning at the Buffett Early Childhood Institute, says the Institute is deliberately focusing on and inviting applications from students working in areas that may not typically be associated with early childhood.
They're focusing in particular on at risk children. Sarver says the Buffett Institute wants to support the emergent leaders coming into the field.
"These are the people that may be solving the next problems, the problems we have now and the problems coming up, so we want to be involved in that career ladder and helping those students. And it allows us to reach out across the campuses in some new ways and it gives us new ideas about things we can tackle and work with across the state.”
Sarver says the Buffett Institute Graduate Scholars program will award 1 and 2-year grants, each worth $25,000 a year, to a maximum of four doctoral students every year.
