Business conditions report shows economic recovery

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – Creighton University's monthly business conditions report shows the region's economy is recovering.

The report is based on a survey of supply managers in nine states, including Nebraska and Iowa. In January, the Business Conditions index rose to 54.7. It was 50.3 in December. A figure above 50 indicates economic growth. Creighton economist Ernie Goss is encouraged by the January index. But he believes the economic recovery will be modest.

January's report shows more pay raises and fewer layoffs are expected. However, it also notes a decline in inventory as well as a spike in inflation.
