Calling all playwrights

The Great Plains Theatre Conference announced a Call for Plays recently.

Kevin Lawler, Producing Artistic Director for GPTC, says the plays go through three blind reads before they are finally selected for performance at the conference.

He says at this time last year, the GPTC had received 84 submissions.

This year, they’ve already received 111.  Lawler says they are looking for full-length plays or one-acts, anything that’s 15 pages or longer.

He says the only things GPTC doesn’t accept are musicals, plays for young audiences or plays that have already had a professional equity production.

Lawler says he recently cut down the number of shows that were being presented at the conference.

"We made that switch so we could get the entire script in and the playwright can get really adequate feedback and it’s worked beautifully.  A lot of the plays now are going on to productions around the country so it’s been a great change.”

The deadline for submissions is November 1st.
