"Camelot" is onstage at the Orpheum Theatre this week

Having been in "Spamalot" and now "Camelot," Kasidy Devlin is no stranger to the King Arthur legend.

Omaha Performing Arts presents Lerner and Loewe’s "Camelot" tonight through Sunday at the Orpheum Theatre.

Devlin plays Mordred in the production.  After a three year run as Sir Robin in Spamalot, the producers of that show asked Devlin to consider joining the cast of "Camelot" as Mordred, a character he describes as a psychopath.

He says this production is a whole new take on "Camelot."

"We really went back to the original book, “The Once and Future King.” So Mordred is a really bad guy and a witch I might add. So he is the absolute villain, the anti-Lancelot.  He comes into Camelot and in the course of just a couple of scenes, leads to the downfall of Camelot, exposes the love triangle.”

Devlin says everyone involved in the production worked hard on trying to create something that was less fairytale and more medieval.

He says they wanted something that appealed to modern sensibilities but didn’t lose the magic of the original show.
