Capitol District to feature hotel, apartments, office space

Omaha’s Capitol District project is underway.

City and business leaders broke ground Friday morning on the $205 million project. It spans from 10th to 12th Streets and Capitol Street to the Interstate. The Capitol District is a mixed-use project, with a Marriott hotel, apartments, office space, and a plaza.

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert says the project is important to the future of downtown.

"Here between North Downtown and the Old Market, we have the opportunity to increase important tourist and convention business. The Marriott hotel will be another selling point for organizations, promoters, and sports event planners who already know it’s a good host city for any event."

The hotel is scheduled to open in the spring of 2016. Construction on other parts of the Capitol District will begin at that time.
