Careerockit encourages students to start their careers in Omaha

Careerockit is an initiative of the Greater Omaha Chamber that brings together the education community and the business community.

The goal of Careerockit is to provide students with experiences that will educate, engage and inspire them to start their careers here in the Omaha region.

Patricia Mayorga, Talent Manager at the Greater Omaha Chamber, says they just finished matching the 260 student groups that registered for the initiative with businesses that have signed up.

The event takes place the week of February 12th.

"The employers have about a month to finalize planning all the details for the experience they are going to host for the students.  Whether that experience is at their place of business or in the classroom, they will be working with educators to finalize those details.  It’s going to be everything from what do we want to show these students to what day and time are we going to host them?  So, all of those details.”

Mayorga says experiences will vary from business to business.  She says some businesses will take students on a tour of their company and talk to them about what their employees do each day.

Other businesses might bring students to a conference room for a hands-on activity that uses the same skills their employees use on a daily basis.
