Challenge to Nebraska's limit on paternity requests rejected

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska Supreme Court has rejected a constitutional challenge to the state's 4-year statute of limitations on paternity requests.

The opinion comes in the case of a Union, Nebraska man who sought paternity and custody of an 8-year-old child born to a woman with whom he had an extramarital affair.

The man argued, among other things, that the 4-year limit violates his equal protection rights because it discriminates against fathers.

But the high court rejected that claim, saying the 4-year limit on paternity actions has been applied to both men and women.
