Child Development Center opens at Offutt Air Force Base

By Katie Knapp

Bellevue, NE – Offutt Air Force Base is celebrating the opening of a new child development center.

The Center opened Tuesday after more than a year of construction. The 51,000 square foot facility can accommodate more than 300 children ages birth through preschool. The Center was paid for with a $12.9 million federal earmark in the Fiscal Year 2006 budget.

Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson says securing that earmark was difficult. But he says the new Center will give deployed parents peace of mind that their children are being well taken care of.

Senator Nelson says he also hopes to secure an earmark for Stratcom's new facility at Offutt.
