The Omaha Public Library is hosting an event Saturday with children’s book author Jan Brett.
Brett is the author of a new holiday book called “The Animals’ Santa.” It’s the story of a family of forest animals who are trying to learn who leaves them Christmas gifts every year.
Brett says the book came about because she wanted to explore the idea of whether animals have a Santa Claus.
"And it was just kind of about the Earth turning on its axis, and I was thinking about the winter solstice being at the same time, and maybe the animals would all be friends on that one night, Christmas Eve would be sort of a special, spiritual time."
Brett says the book touches on childhood feelings of wonder, optimism, renewal, and giving and receiving.
The Omaha Public Library’s event with Jan Brett begins at 10 am Saturday at the Police Union Hall.
