Children's Transport Team Awarded "Gold Standard" Accreditation for Quality & Safety

Children’s Hospital & Medical Center’s Transport Team was recently awarded “Gold Standard” accreditation for safety and quality.

Dr. Robert Chaplin, medical director of the Critical Care Transport Team, says the transport team moves patients from one medical center to another or from a doctor’s office to a hospital.

He says most of the time that means bringing patients to Children’s Hospital.  Chaplin says in order to even apply for the accreditation, a team must have several years of data to submit.

"We were evaluated on our quality, the people that we hire, both our safety record and our safety initiatives, the therapeutics of our treatments that we give.  There’s a whole guideline that goes through all of those things plus weather safety, physician input, policies regarding hiring, all of those things that are considered to be the best of what you should do.”

Chaplin says from a quality, safety and therapy standpoint, the Children’s Transport Team was able to show that they are consistent with those beliefs and follow those standards.

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems awards the accreditations, which are good for three years.
