Christmas At Union Station

Christmas at Union Station at the Durham Museum begins this Friday with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony between 4 and 8 p.m.

Jessica Brummer, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at the Durham, says Union Pacific’s role in harvesting the tree for Christmas at Union Station goes back to the 1930s.

“Union Pacific used to harvest a tree from the Pacific Northwest and bring it by rail to put up and decorate for Christmas at Union Station, so that tradition is a very, very long one.  We have lots of people that sort of make it their annual tradition – bring down the kids and grandkids, take their Christmas card photo by the tree, all that good stuff.”

Brummer says the holiday festivities will last for about a month and include the Ethnic Holiday Festival on December 2nd, Family Nights with Santa each Tuesday in December, holiday music on Tuesday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays and more.

As part of ConAgra’s Shine the Light on Hunger Campaign, visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be distributed to the Food Bank for the Heartland.
