"Chrysalis" is newest exhibit from students at Kent Bellows Mentoring Program

“Chrysalis” is the theme of the Kent Bellows Mentoring Program’s summer art exhibition.  The program is run through the Joslyn Art Museum.

Weston Thomson, Community Outreach Manager at the Joslyn, says the program enrolls students in high school.

He says programs are offered three semesters each year: fall, spring and summer.

Thomson says students can study sculpture one semester and digital art another semester.  He says they’re encouraged to try different mediums and disciplines until they figure out what they’d like to do.

"Chrysalis represents this rebirth of the creative voice of the teens in the program.  In terms of the theme, everybody in the program has kind of a balance of freedom and support going into the show.  So they get to kind of make their own work and the mentor and their fellow students will help shape that work through critique and coaching.  Really there’s going to be a huge variety of content and media and expression and style.”

The Kent Bellows Mentoring Program has an exhibition every semester that features all the students enrolled in the program.
