Cinemateca 2014 kicks off this month

Film Streams and UNO’s Office of Latino/Latin American Studies are presenting the 4th annual Cinemateca Series August 29th through September 30th.

Steven Torres, Associate Professor of Spanish at UNO, says this year’s series includes two first-run films, each playing for a week.

Additionally, this year’s series will feature the first-ever visit by an international filmmaker, Spanish director, Oscar Clemente.

Tuesdays during the series, guests will enjoy a post-film discussion led by both OLLAS faculty and special guests.  He says they will also have the opportunity to sample food from area restaurants.

"We always try to invite local area restaurants to provide food before each film that is from the country of origin of the film or at least from the same region and give audiences a taste of what the food in that part of the world might be like.  And I think that’s something that audiences always appreciate a great deal too.”

Torres says this year’s focus is on recent, contemporary films, some with a documentary-like feel.
