Coach who quit accused of punching girl in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The head coach who resigned just days before a state championship football game is accused of punching a girl in Omaha.

Police say Chris Nizzi has been cited for misdemeanor assault. The 51-year-old quit as coach and as a counselor at Omaha Creighton Prep over the weekend. Nizzi declined to comment to The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The 17-year-old girl told police that she and Nizzi's 16-year-old son were parked near the Nizzi home about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when Nizzi arrived home and soon confronted her about hanging out with his son. She told officers that Nizzi then used a fist to strike her face. The report says Nizzi told officers he backhanded the girl.

Creighton Prep plays Omaha North for the state Class A title on Monday.
