Omaha, NE – College of St. Mary's Latina Summer Academy takes place June 19th through the 24th.
Maria Luisa Gaston is the Director of Hispanic Admissions at CSM. She says the program is a one-week long, live-in academic experience that offers Latinas in 9th and 10th grade the opportunity to sample college life. The girls live in dorms, eat in the dining hall and take classes in science and technology. Gaston says the program gives Latina girls the chance to learn more about their possible career paths, as well as their strengths and talents, "Some of these girls may come with the idea that they are not going to go to college or that maybe college is not for them, but they leave here saying, 'Hey, yes I do want to go to college.'"
