Community says goodbye to Millard South administrator

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Omaha, NE – About two thousand people gathered at a west Omaha church Tuesday morning to say goodbye to Millard South High School's Assistant Principal.

58-year-old Vicki Kasper was shot and killed last Wednesday by a Millard South student. Kaspar was a staff member at Millard South for 23 years. She became Assistant Principal in 1998. During Tuesday's service at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Father Michael Swanton told mourners the circumstances of Kaspar's death shouldn't cause them to lose faith in humanity. "The reason Vicki's loss is so great is because she was such a wonderful person: a loving wife, mother, and friend, always caring about everyone else before herself," Swanton said. "We can lose hope in humanity, and even in God. But God became a human being to give us hope."

Kaspar died the day before her 59th birthday. Father Swanton told the crowd Kaspar should be remembered for her leadership and the impact she had on others' lives.

The crowd at St. Wenceslaus included about one thousand Millard South students, who gathered in the church's gymnasium to watch the funeral via video feed.
