Convention center, new hotel coming to Bellevue

The city of Bellevue plans to build a convention center and hotel.

A $1.125 million dollar state grant will help Bellevue pay for the $8 million convention center in the Twin Creek area. The hotel will cost $15 million. Assistant City Administrator Larry Burks says Bellevue needs a facility that can host special events.

"When we realized that most of the people getting married had to go outside of Bellevue for receptions, we identified that as a critical need. Also, the Chamber of Commerce, Offutt Air Force Base, and other large companies within the city of Bellevue had no place to hold conferences or company meetings, things of that nature."

Burks says a groundbreaking is scheduled for August on the 25,000 square foot convention center. It’ll have the capacity for 800 to 1000 seats.

Construction is expected to take 12 to 18 months.
