Council Bluffs celebrates opening of River's Edge Park with three weeks of events
Council Bluffs officials are ready to open River’s Edge Park.
The park officially opens Saturday evening with a concert by the Beach Boys. Three weeks of events are planned to celebrate the park, which is on the Iowa side of the pedestrian bridge.
Larry Foster, director of Council Bluffs Park and Recreation, says River’s Edge Park has been in the works for several years.
"So we started moving forward, we had a minor hiccup, which was 100 days of flood water in 2011, but we were able to persevere for that, the Mayor got us back on track. Iowa West, of course, our major funding sponsors along with the city stayed behind the project, and we are substantially complete and ready to open up."
During Loessfest, which runs until June 8, there will be movies in the park, a soccer tournament, and a food truck festival. There’s also a Playing With Fire concert May 27th featuring Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Foster says the 85-acre River’s Edge Park was designed to accommodate a variety of family-friendly events.
