Council Bluffs gets I-JOBS money for public works project

By Katie Knapp Schubert

Council Bluffs, IA – Construction is set to begin next spring on Council Bluffs' new public works operations facility.

Council Bluffs officials and Iowa Lt. Governor Patty Judge announced the project Wednesday. Its total cost is $7 million. Half of the funding comes from the state's $830 million I-JOBS program. Council Bluffs matched the other half of the funding.

Judge says projects like the one in Council Bluffs are necessary to grow Iowa out of a recession. The I-JOBS program is designed to help cities and counties rebuild infrastructure. I-JOBS bonds will be paid back with gambling revenue.

Council Bluffs' new facility will house all of its public works operations in one location.
